Reflections

...Time has escaped since my last posting, mostly without my noticing and, although the flowers are now well-planted, my teapot has remained idle far too long. Hours lost, though some better spent here and there reflecting on life over a cup of my favorite brew, and some spent writing or painting or other tasks equally important, but spent they are, yet some without a trace.

Life, measured by tasks, the sheer volume which surpasses all time allowed, while time’s value measured by things left yet undone rather than bounteous rows in the garden or stacks of good books read or pages of music played.

Rather I prefer time, measured by the summation of all my days at life’s end instead of tasks uncompleted, and life spent one teacup at a time.

Teatime

Today the snow falls again, much to my surprise, after a few lovely almost Spring days here in Van Buren County. Time for tea I say! Thoughts of spring brought out my wish to out in the garden, digging in the dark, rich soil, planting seeds and hoping for beauty to rise in their place. Today, I'm back to wool socks and a well-used fireplace to take the chill out of the air. My comfortable chair drawn close enough to the edge to feel the warmth without getting burned, my teapot whistling on the stove puts me in a mood to find my favorite book and dream of far-off places rather than brave the cold outdoors. I place warm scones on a plate and dabs of fresh lemon curd and Devonshire cream, then sit back and enjoy the beautiful snowy scene outside my window...flowers will have to wait for another day. Teatime!
